A Reddit post has gone viral for claiming that the cybersecurity firm Fortinet has laid off all H-1B workers in the US. The user claims that they got the information first hand from two employees there.
In the post, the user claims that September was set as the final work month for most H-1B employees. Others with a longer validity on their visa are set to be terminated in February 2027.
The comments on the post also state that manyy other companies have done the same. Notably, Johnson & Johnson also conducted mass layoffs of US and H-1B workers, along with roles in India.
Many users believe this may signal companies gearing up to offshore large amounts of roles from the US. This move comes after several blows to the H-1B program, including the $100,000 fee and the recent PERM pauses of several companies like Microsoft.
This fact may be true as companies like Fidelity have stopped renewing and sponsoring H-1B employees. They have also begun to layoff H-1B staff over the immigration complications.
Looking at Fortinet’s job postings, this may the same case for them. 80% of postings list that employment sponsorship will not be offered.
The current anti-immigration climate has essentially crippled the H-1B visa in the US. But instead of hiring American workers, it seems companies are ready to offshore the open positions to countries like India.
