AR Rahman is once again under attack by netizens for a new reason this time. Netizens have heavily criticized him for his rendition of the patriotic song Karar Oi Louho Kapat. AR Rahman’s version of the movie is being used in the movie Pippa, which is a war film featuring Ishaan Khatter. Karar Oi Louho Kapat was originally written by Kazi Nazrul Islam in 1922.
People have complained that this new version of the song has lost the essence of the song and no longer has a soul. Music composer Debojyoti Mishra said that the song was brutally murdered by AR Rahman.
Kazi Nazrul’s family themselves have protested against the song and expressed their disappointment. They said that it was an insult to the good faith in which a recreation license was given to the production house. They have accused AR Rahman of being insensitive.
As a protest, they demand that the family’s name be removed from the credits of the movie. The fact that a legend like AR Rahman has composed this new version is disheartening for the fans.
The song was composed when freedom fighter Chittaranjan Das was arrested in 1922. It was first recorded in 1949 and sung by Girin Chakraborty.
