Rahul Mishra, a young man from a village near Varanasi, died by suicide on 10 December 2025. He was found hanging inside his home. Before this, he recorded a seven minute video while riding his bike. In the video, he spoke about problems in his marriage.
He said his wife, Sandhya Singh, was involved with another man, which caused him emotional pain. He also said he could not meet his child and felt stressed by debts, cases, and arguments within the family. These issues made him feel helpless.
In the video, Rahul said “I loved my wife very much. I wanted to live. Today I am committing suicide. I don’t like it that my wife talks to someone else.” His family later handed the video to the police. A case has been filed against his wife, her alleged partner, and his mother in law for abetment of suicide. Police are examining the video and all statements closely.
Rahul also claimed that the government does not act strictly against women. But in practice, Indian law punishes any person proven guilty, whether man or woman. Legal action depends on evidence, and if a woman is responsible for a crime, she is also charged under the law.
The question remains whether suicide was the only path. Rahul had a mother and a young child who needed him. With counselling and support, his thoughts could have changed. He could have considered his son before taking such a step. The investigation is in progress.
