The United States of America is known to have one of them best performing disease control operations in the world. This is the reason why several countries trust in the reports published by the Centre for disease control in the United States.
Now the CDC has issued a new message regarding the ongoing pneumonic plague outbreak in Russia which has already killed a couple of people, including the lab technician who broke the plaque sample.
The CDC has now issued directives and details regarding the potential fatality of the plaque and let’s have a look into the same.
The CDC is aware of and closely monitoring reports of a suspected case of pneumonic plague in the Irkutsk region of Russia that resulted in a death. They are working across the U.S. government to assess developments as additional information becomes available.
While the circumstances of this reported case remain unconfirmed, plague is a serious bacterial disease that is treatable with antibiotics, particularly when recognised and treated early, the CDC says.
Pneumonic plague can spread person-to-person through respiratory droplets during close contact, which is why rapid identification and treatment of infected individuals, and monitoring of potentially exposed individuals, are important public health measures.
This communication from the CDC confirms that the plague is indeed treatable, but it must be identified early and medical procedures must start correspondingly. For now, there is no reason to panic or worry about as there is no global outbreak. We will keep you posted on the subsequent updates in this matter as the world closely observes what’s happening in Russia.
