New Plague Outbreak: Is It Worse Than Covid?

Russia plague scare in Siberia

The last time the world came to a lockdown was during the Covid outbreak in 2019-2021. This was one of the worst virus outbreaks in many decades as it claimed lakhs of lives across the globe.

Now it appears that there is another problematic situation that has come up in Russia, and things are not looking positive at all.

Coming to the topic now, a 28 yr old researcher died of an unidentified infection at a Russian anti-plague laboratory in Siberia, raising concerns over a possible lab accident

Russian authorities say she suffered from pneumonia of unknown cause. But there are international media reports, claiming that she accidentally broke a test tube containing the pneumonic plague sample as she died of the infection.

Local media reports are saying that nearly 200 people were placed under observation, identified close contacts have tested negative and shown no symptoms. But several hospitals that have been treating these patients have been put on quarantine with no connection to the outside world.

The US says it is monitoring the case and has urged Russia to quickly share accurate information. A few politicians in the United States have called for a complete travel ban to Russia, in view of the ongoing scenario.

For now, there are multiple media reports, claiming that this pneumonic plague could be dead than Covid. But many of these reports are simply clickbait in nature, and we have to wait for actual medical records to see if this is actually the case or not.
