Supreme Court on Diwali Firecrackers
Generally, the Supreme Court of India prefers to impose a complete ban on cracking of fireworks during the Diwali season. This has been the customary practice for the last few years as the court had been citing environmental reasons.
But for a change, the Supreme Court of India has denied to impose a ban on Diwali fireworks this year.
The Supreme Court has stated it is not in favour of imposing a complete ban on Diwali firecrackers, remarking that it does not want to hurt anyone’s feelings.
The court’s observation comes amid ongoing discussions surrounding regulations and environmental concerns related to festive celebrations.
The bench says celebrations can boost morale and positivity, while urging consideration for children, elderly people and persons with disabilities.
Despite a ban on fireworks over the recent years, a significant portion of the Indian population used to indulge in fireworks activities regardless. The volume of fireworks might have been reducing, but it was never zero in accordance with the court order.
But this time around the court itself has refrained from imposing a ban. So we have to wait and see if this would lead to increased fireworks sales this year.
