Hospital Scandal: Doctor Lovemaking During Surgery

In September 2023, a shocking incident took place at Tameside General Hospital in Greater Manchester. A 44-year-old anaesthetist, Dr. Suhail Anjum of Pakistani origin, allegedly abandoned a patient mid-surgery to engage in sexual activity with a nurse in another operating theatre.

The pair was caught by a fellow nurse who entered the room to collect equipment and found them in a compromising position. Reports stated that Dr. Anjum was seen adjusting his trousers, while the nurse’s clothes were visibly disordered.

According to hospital records, Dr. Anjum had taken a “comfort break” and asked another nurse to monitor the patient, who was undergoing gallbladder surgery. The procedure was later completed and the patient was unharmed.

The incident raised serious questions about professional conduct and patient safety. In a medical tribunal in Manchester, Dr. Anjum admitted his actions were shameful and indefensible, blaming stress from marital issues and his daughter’s premature birth.

The tribunal condemned his behaviour and stated that he had betrayed the trust of the hospital, the NHS, and the patient. Following the scandal, Dr. Anjum resigned from his UK post in February 2024 and returned to Pakistan.

He later expressed regret and a wish to return to medical practice in the UK, but the board chose to dismiss him permanently.
