US Ambassador’s Surprising Love Affair with Hyderabadi Cuisine

Indian food is quite diverse, ranging from flavor to cooking methods. Hyderabadi food is one of India’s most popular cuisines. Diplomat Eric Garcetti, the United States Ambassador to India at the time, had the opportunity to sample some of the best Hyderabadi food made by a five-star hotel chef.

Garcetti and his companions are seen savoring foods such as ‘kachhe ghost ki biryani’ and ‘kubani ka meetha’ in a video tweeted by the US Consulate General Hyderabad (@USAndHyderabad).

Garcetti said of ‘kubani ka meetha,’ a dish composed of dried apricots, “It’s simple but complex.” It’s delicious yet also quite refreshing. With the saffron threads, you added a touch of sophistication.”

Garcetti retweeted his fancy dinner experience, writing, “I can’t travel to a new place without trying some of the local fares!” Chef Shivneet Pohoja of ITC Kohenur’s Dum Pukht restaurant provided a delectable taste of dakhni chowgra, Hyderabadi gosht biryani, and khubani ka meetha. Yum!”.

A Twitter user commented on the video, saying, “This looks tasty, but why stick to fancy 5-star hotels, Ambassador?” Genuine delicacy and flavor may be discovered on the streets and in local dhabas. Try it out sometime.
