A shocking case has emerged in Saharanpur Uttar Pradesh where a case was filed against a woman’s in-laws for allegedly injecting her with an HIV-infected syringe after her family failed to meet dowry demands.
The 30-year-old woman married in February 2023. Her father said he spent ₹45 lakh on the wedding, giving a sub-compact SUV and ₹15 lakh in cash. However, her in-laws allegedly demanded an extra ₹10 lakh and a bigger SUV.
From the start, they harassed her. They humiliated her and even threatened to get their son remarried. On March 25, 2023, they threw her out, and she stayed with her parents for three months. After a village panchayat intervened, she returned, but the abuse continued.
In May 2024, her in-laws allegedly injected her with an HIV-infected syringe. Her health declined, and medical tests confirmed she was HIV-positive, while her husband tested negative.
When her father tried to file a complaint, local police allegedly refused, asking him to seek orders from higher authorities. The Saharanpur SSP also ignored their request.
With no other option, they went to court, which directed police to take action. Finally an FIR was filed at Gangoh police station against her husband (32), brother-in-law (38), sister-in-law (35), and mother-in-law (56). The obvious charges include attempt to murder, cruelty against a woman, voluntarily causing hurt, along with dowry-related offenses.
SHO Rogent Tyagi denied claims that police ignored the case. The investigation is ongoing.
