Asia Cup 2025: AB de Villiers on Bumrah’s Workload

Is Jasprit Bumrah playing every match in the 2025 Asia Cup? AB de Villiers doesn’t think so. The pacer is in India’s 15-member squad for the Asia Cup starting September 9 in the UAE, but workload and past injuries remain a concern.

Bumrah’s Fitness and Workload

Bumrah, 31, played only three of the five Tests in the recent England tour. He also missed games in the Champions Trophy due to a back injury in Australia. Earlier this year, he sat out the first few matches of IPL 2025.

With such a busy calendar, India is focusing on workload management. Bumrah’s fitness has become a top priority to keep him ready for crucial matches.

AB de Villiers on Bumrah

On his YouTube channel, AB de Villiers said he was happy to see Bumrah fit and in the squad. However, he believes Bumrah will not play every game. He expects the selectors to use him only in the most important matches.

He further explained that workload is a big challenge for players over 30. According to him, selectors must manage senior players carefully to get the best out of them.

India’s Asia Cup Plan

India will begin their Asia Cup campaign against the UAE in Dubai on September 10. They are in Group A along with Pakistan and Oman.

With bowlers like Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana and Hardik Pandya in the squad, India can rotate their attack. This allows Bumrah to be used strategically for high-stakes encounters.

Smart Strategy for Success

AB de Villiers praised India’s bowling depth and tactical approach. By resting Bumrah in less critical matches, India ensures their star pacer remains fresh when it matters most.

This strategy reflects modern cricket thinking, where workload management is as vital as talent. Bumrah may not feature in every match, but India is clearly planning for him to shine in the decisive moments of the 2025 Asia Cup.
