Babar Azam Failed as Captain? ‘Dummy Cap’ Tag Given

Pakistan have made several changes to their Test team during the England series, and former captain Rashid Latif has now criticised Babar Azam for his leadership.

After Pakistan lost the second Test to England by 194 runs at Lord’s, the PCB sent seven players back home. Head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul were also removed from their roles.

Latif believes Babar Azam should have taken a stand for his teammates instead of staying quiet.

Latif said Babar should have resigned as captain after the PCB made so many changes to the team.

Babar should have resigned here. Half of the team has been sent back home. If I were in his place, I would have given up the captaincy. You have become a dummy captain. There’s a difference between a leader and a captain,” Latif said.

Babar had only recently returned as Pakistan’s Test captain after replacing Shan Masood. He missed the first Test because of injury and then scored only eight and six in the second Test.

The PCB recalled Mohammad Rizwan, Imam-ul-Haq, Salman Ali Agha, Ali Usman, Aamer Jamal, Awais Zafar and Khurram Shahzad.

The board also removed Sarfaraz Ahmed and Umar Gul from the coaching staff.

Mike Hesson will now take charge of the Test team for the rest of the England series, while Ashley Noffke will work as the bowling coach.

Five uncapped players have also been added to the squad before the next Test at Edgbaston.

Pakistan have struggled to score runs in the first two Tests. They have not crossed 200 in any innings of the series, while Babar has also failed to make a big score since returning as captain.

Latif’s main concern is Babar’s response to the changes. Your coach has been sidelined, and you are sitting quietly. It shows that the PCB always needs a dummy captain he added.

Babar now faces questions about his leadership as Pakistan prepare for the next Test against England.
