Pakistan cricket team’s disappointing campaign in the T20 World Cup has led to firm action from the Pakistan Cricket Board. As per social media reports, each player in the squad has been fined Rs 50 lakh after failing to reach the Semi finals.
Reports claim the decision was taken soon after Pakistan’s loss to India in the group stage. That defeat was viewed as a major setback. PCB officials were reportedly unhappy with both the performance and the overall attitude of the team.
The move is being seen as a strong statement from PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi. Pakistan have struggled in ICC tournaments in recent years. In the 2024 T20 World Cup, they failed to reach the Super 8 stage after defeats to USA and India.
In the ongoing edition, Pakistan managed to enter the Super 8s but lacked consistency. They narrowly defeated the Netherlands and later missed out on a Semi finals spot. In their final Super 8 match, they scored 212 yet won by only five runs, which did not help their net run rate.
PCB officials believe accountability must apply during failures as much as rewards are given during victories. Captain Salman Agha admitted the team fell short. He said the middle order struggled and the side relied heavily on Sahibzada Farhan.
Farhan emerged as the standout performer for Pakistan. He scored 383 runs in seven matches at an average of 76.60. He also broke Virat Kohli’s record for most runs in a single T20 World Cup edition and became the first player to score two centuries in one edition.
Despite his individual brilliance, the team’s overall campaign ended in disappointment. The PCB’s strict action underlines its intent to demand higher standards. The coming months will reveal how Pakistan cricket responds to this setback.
