Jasprit Bumrah has told the BCCI he is available for the two-Test series against West Indies starting October 2 in Ahmedabad and New Delhi. The selectors, led by Ajit Agarkar, will meet virtually on Wednesday to finalise the 15-member squad.
Bumrah to play despite tight schedule
Bumrah is currently playing the Asia Cup in the UAE. If India reach the final, he will have only three days to recover before the first Test in Ahmedabad. The management still wants him to play and assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate confirmed he will feature.
Squad stability expected
The selectors are unlikely to make big changes from the squad that toured England earlier this year. With Rishabh Pant recovering from a foot fracture, Dhruv Jurel remains the first-choice wicketkeeper and N Jagadeesan will back him up. Jurel has another chance to cement his place.
Manav Suthar in the spotlight
Rajasthan left-arm spinner Manav Suthar has impressed with a five-wicket haul in the ongoing India A vs Australia A match. The 23-year-old has 95 wickets from 23 first-class games and is seen as a long-term option alongside Ravindra Jadeja.
Jadeja’s return a big boost
Jadeja has reported to the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru for a fitness test after a two-month break. He was outstanding in England with a century and three fifties. His return will add much-needed balance to India’s side.
Balanced squad for key series
The West Indies series may be short but it carries importance. Bumrah strengthens the bowling attack, Jadeja’s comeback lifts the middle order, and Suthar’s inclusion points to the future. With Jurel and Jagadeesan handling the gloves, India look prepared for bigger challenges ahead.
