Cricket legend leagues debate has gained momentum, with Harsha Bhogle voicing concerns during Legends League Cricket 2026. The noted commentator said the term “legend” is now used too loosely. This shift, he feels, is changing how fans view greatness in the sport.
Speaking at the ongoing LLC 2026 in India, Bhogle noted that such tournaments are growing fast across the world. Events like Road Safety League, WCL, and IML now offer former cricketers many chances to return and compete again.
Bhogle explained his point in a clear manner. Earlier, legends were seen as rare and exceptional players. Today, with many leagues using the same label, the value of the term is gradually weakening in public perception.
The current LLC season is being held in cities such as Haldwani, Dehradun, Coimbatore, and Amritsar. The final is scheduled just before IPL 2026. While fans enjoy watching retired stars, concerns about quality and relevance are increasing.
Another key aspect is the rule for Indian players. Participation in these leagues is allowed only after full retirement. Once involved, players cannot return to the national team or take part in competitions like the IPL or domestic cricket.
What began as a strong platform for retired cricketers is now becoming crowded. As Bhogle indicated, when every player is called a legend, the word risks losing its true meaning and impact over time.
