Delhi Capitals faced Chennai Super Kings in the 48th match of IPL 2026, where CSK secured an 8 wicket win. Sanju Samson led the chase with an unbeaten 87. Chennai comfortably chased 156 with 15 balls remaining.
CSK had a slow start to the season, but this win signals a steady comeback. Delhi Capitals struggled to build momentum and managed only 155 runs. Their batting lacked consistency, which made it difficult to challenge the opposition.
After winning the toss, Axar Patel opted to bat first, but the decision did not work in favour of Delhi. The team had a poor powerplay and scored just 37 for 2. The middle overs also lacked intent and slowed the innings.
Tristan Stubbs tried to stabilise the innings with 38 off 31 balls. Sameer Rizvi added 40 not out off 24 balls, while Ashutosh Sharma scored 14 off 5 balls. Their efforts helped Delhi reach a modest total.
Other batters failed to make an impact. Pathum Nissanka, Nitish Rana, Karun Nair, and KL Rahul could not convert their starts. Apart from the final overs, Delhi’s batting performance remained below expectations.
For CSK, Noor Ahmed picked up two wickets. Jamie Overton, Akeal Hosein, Mukesh Choudhary, and Gurjapneet Singh took one wicket each. The bowling unit maintained control and restricted Delhi effectively.
Reports suggested rain in Delhi over the previous nights, which left moisture on the pitch. In such conditions, bowling first could have been a better choice. The pitch also assisted spinners, making the toss decision questionable.
Chennai Super Kings dominated the chase from the start. Sanju Samson played a composed innings and stayed unbeaten on 87. His knock ensured there was no pressure during the run chase.
He shared a crucial partnership with Kartik Sharma, adding over 100 runs for the wicket. This stand completely shifted the match in CSK’s favour and ensured a smooth finish.
CSK completed the chase with ease, losing only two wickets. The team showed strong intent and control throughout the innings, making it a one sided contest in the end.
This result is a setback for Delhi Capitals in the playoff race. The batting struggled, and key decisions did not work. While the finish was decent, the overall performance was not enough.
