Former cricketer Dinesh Karthik has strongly criticised India’s lack of intent and poor performance throughout the Test series against South Africa. In a social media video, he said teams once feared touring India, but now arrive confident and eager for victory.
Two home whitewashes in a year
India has played three home Test series in the last 12 months and suffered whitewashes in two. Karthik questioned selection patterns, especially the heavy focus on all-rounders and the drop in India’s ability to handle spin, a long-standing strength.
Batting numbers expose the decline
Only two Indian batters scored centuries in the entire series, while South Africa produced seven. Karthik highlighted that India’s number three position holds the second worst first innings average in Test cricket at just 26 runs.
Uncertainty in selection strategy
He asked whether the constant chop and change approach is actually hurting India, preventing stability and rhythm within the batting group. The former wicketkeeper suggested that clarity and consistency need to return to the setup.
Time to rebuild and respond
With the next Test series almost seven months away, Karthik believes both the management and the team must reflect and reset. The challenge now is to rise from this decline and work towards reclaiming the dominance India once held at home.
