Dinesh Karthik and Piyush Chawla are ready to showcase their talent in the UAE’s DP World ILT20. Both veterans bring rich experience and add star power to the league as they begin new chapters in their T20 careers.
Karthik joins Sharjah Warriorz
Karthik has been signed by Sharjah Warriorz as a replacement for Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis. The wicketkeeper-batter, who retired from international cricket in June 2024, said he is eager to play at the iconic Sharjah Stadium.
Chawla signs with Knight Riders
Chawla has joined Abu Dhabi Knight Riders as a wildcard player. The leg-spinner, a two-time World Cup winner, last featured in an overseas T20 league in 2009. His spin expertise and experience will add value to the side.
Coaches welcome experience
Sharjah head coach JP Duminy said Karthik’s experience and tactical skills would guide young players during the tournament. The addition of veterans like Karthik and Chawla brings balance to teams already stacked with exciting young talent.
Franchise cricket record
Karthik has played franchise cricket worldwide. He featured for the Bangla Tigers in the Abu Dhabi T10, Southern Superstars in the Legends League, and Paarl Royals in the SA20. His career record includes 412 T20 matches, over 7,500 runs, and a strike rate above 136.
ILT20 auction and teams
ILT20 2025 features six teams: Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, Desert Vipers, Dubai Capitals, Gulf Giants, MI Emirates, and Sharjah Warriorz. After retentions in July, the first-ever player auction was held on October 1 with a budget of 2 million for each franchise.
Indian veterans add balance
The presence of Karthik and Chawla strengthens the league’s competitiveness. Karthik’s ability to finish games and Chawla’s wicket-taking spin could influence key moments. Their experience alongside top international stars promises tactical battles and high-quality cricket.
Excitement builds for ILT20
Fans are eager to watch Karthik bat in Sharjah and Chawla spin in Abu Dhabi. Their debut in ILT20 not only boosts their respective teams but also adds excitement and global appeal to the tournament.
