Former Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik has responded strongly to earlier comments made by English commentators Nasser Hussain and Mike Atherton about India’s alleged advantage during the Champions Trophy.
During a podcast discussion, Karthik criticised the narrative that India benefited from favourable conditions in the tournament. He argued that similar situations had not produced the same results for other teams.
Karthik said he had expected Pakistan to comfortably reach the semi-finals because most of their matches were played in Colombo.
According to him, playing repeatedly at the same venue and staying at one hotel should have provided a strong advantage.
He recalled that some commentators earlier suggested India’s success in the Champions Trophy was linked to playing under familiar conditions.
Karthik responded to that argument in a humorous but sharp tone. He suggested that if venue familiarity alone determined success, Pakistan should have benefited from it during the tournament.
The former wicketkeeper batter pointed out that results ultimately depend on skill and performance. According to him, the outcome cannot simply be explained by travel or venue advantages.
His comments drew laughter during the discussion. Both Nasser Hussain and Mike Atherton reportedly reacted with smiles as the debate continued.
However, some Pakistani fans argued that their team played matches across multiple venues rather than just one ground.
Even so, many observers noted that Pakistan still travelled less compared to several other teams in the competition.
Karthik’s remarks quickly gained attention among Indian cricket fans. Many supporters agreed with his view that performance on the field matters more than perceived scheduling advantages.
With India preparing to face England in the semi-finals, fans now hope the team will respond strongly on the field as well.
