Village Boy to World Cup Hero: Gujarat Star Shines

Henil Patel delivered a standout spell in the U-19 World Cup with a five-wicket haul against the USA. This performance gave India a strong start and placed Henil Patel in focus early in the tournament.

The achievement meant even more in his village, Jujwa, in Gujarat. With a population of 3,240, the village erupted in celebration as Henil Patel kept taking wickets. Calls and visitors flooded his home throughout the day.

Henil Patel’s father, Dilip Patel, said it became difficult to respond to everyone. The entire village shared the pride. Locals said they had last seen such a gathering when Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the area years ago.

Henil Patel’s journey from Jujwa

Before Henil Patel left for the tournament, most of the village gathered at his house to wish him well. The farewell reflected the faith people had in his talent and discipline. His rise has become a shared moment for the village.

Henil Patel was selected during trials held by the Gujarat Cricket Association. Former first-class cricketer Jayesh Malka, who coached him, said Henil stood out immediately during training sessions.

Coaching praise and work ethic

Jayesh Malka said Henil Patel was strong for his age and eager to learn. He noted that Henil’s bowling action was natural and that he showed maturity beyond his years from the beginning.

BDCA vice president Dharmin C Desai said Henil Patel never wasted time at the ground. He explained that Henil was always practising, either bowling, batting, or discussing technique with coaches.

Five-wicket spell in U-19 World Cup

Against the USA, Henil Patel bowled with control and patience. He swung the ball both ways and adjusted his length according to conditions. His outswinger struck early, while shorter deliveries caused problems later.

After the match, Henil Patel said he planned his lengths after studying the pitch. Coaches praised his calm approach. His performance reflected years of discipline, family support, and focused preparation.
