IND vs WI: Will History Repeat Or India Stumble?

Fresh from their Asia Cup 2025 win, India now return to Test cricket. The two-match series against West Indies begins on October 2 in Ahmedabad, and India are determined to end a one-year wait for a Test series victory.

India’s Recent Test Struggles

India’s last Test series win came a year ago against Bangladesh. Since then, results have been poor: a 3-0 whitewash at home to New Zealand, a 3-1 defeat in Australia, and a 2-2 draw in England.

New Leadership and Fresh Faces

Shubman Gill has been handed the captaincy, leading a squad without Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, or Ravichandran Ashwin, all retired from Tests. Key players include Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj, and Devdutt Padikkal.

History Strongly Favors India

India have dominated West Indies in recent decades, winning the last nine Test series home and away. The West Indies last beat India in 2002 and have not won a Test series in India since 1983.

West Indies Face Uphill Battle

Once a powerhouse, West Indies now struggle across formats. They recently lost to Nepal in T20Is and even failed to qualify for the 2023 ODI World Cup. Against India, their challenge looks even harder.

India Must Stay Focused

Despite being favourites, India can’t afford complacency. Strong batting partnerships and consistent bowling will be vital. If Gill, Bumrah, and Jadeja deliver, India look set to seal a 10th straight Test series win over West Indies.
