The BCCI has announced new rules for IPL 2026 just days before the season begins. The decision has drawn attention as teams prepare for the tournament. These changes focus on discipline, safety, and smooth match operations.
The tournament will start on March 28. Royal Challengers Bengaluru will face Sunrisers Hyderabad in Bengaluru. The opening match is expected to set the tone for the season and attract strong viewership.
So far, the schedule for only the first 20 matches has been released. These games will be played between March 28 and April 12. The rest of the schedule will be announced later.
This limited schedule is due to upcoming elections in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Assam. It also gives ground staff enough time to prepare pitches after the T20 World Cup 2026. The board wants to avoid any disruptions.
The BCCI has introduced strict rules for practice sessions. Teams are not allowed to have full practice on match days. This is aimed at maintaining pitch quality and ensuring fairness.
Each team will get two nets in the practice area. They will also have a small section on the main pitch for range hitting. If both teams train at the same venue, they cannot share wickets.
Even if one team finishes early, the other cannot use the same practice wickets. Fitness drills on the main pitch during match days are also not allowed. These rules ensure better pitch management.
Travel guidelines have also been updated. Players must travel using the team bus. Teams can split into two groups if needed for convenience.
Family members are no longer allowed to travel with players. They can only watch matches from the hospitality area. This rule aims to reduce distractions during the tournament.
Match day instructions are also strict. Players must avoid hitting balls towards LED boards. Substitutes will have fixed seating, and support staff cannot sit in front of screens.
Orange Cap and Purple Cap holders must wear their caps for the first two overs. This helps broadcasters identify them easily during live coverage.
Post match presentation rules have also changed. Sleeveless jerseys and flip flops are not allowed. Players must follow proper dress codes during presentations.
Those who do not follow the rules will receive a warning. Repeated violations can lead to fines. The board is serious about maintaining discipline.
Overall, these new rules show that the BCCI wants better organisation. The focus is on safety, discipline, and broadcast standards as IPL 2026 begins.
