Golden Chance: Will RCB Finally Back ENG Star?

Jacob Bethell was part of Royal Challengers Bengaluru last season but received very limited opportunities in the playing XI. The young England all rounder spent most of the tournament on the bench due to team combination choices.

During the season, RCB preferred other overseas combinations, which restricted Bethell’s chances. As a result, the promising all rounder had to wait for his opportunity while other foreign players were given consistent roles in the team.

When Bethell finally got a chance, he showed his potential with an impressive performance. In Indian Premier League 2025, he played a strong innings against Chennai Super Kings.

In that match, Bethell scored 55 runs from just 33 balls. His aggressive batting style and ability to handle pressure stood out during the innings. The knock highlighted the attacking approach he brings to T20 cricket.

Despite that promising performance, Bethell did not receive many consistent opportunities throughout the season. His campaign in the tournament also ended earlier than expected due to international commitments.

After RCB’s final league match on May 23, 2025, Bethell left the tournament to join the England national cricket team. The move was necessary as he had to participate in upcoming international assignments.

Following his departure, Tim Seifert was brought in as his replacement for the playoffs. RCB made the change to maintain their overseas player balance for the knockout stage.

Recently, Bethell once again displayed his talent during the semi final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup between England and India national cricket team.

While England were chasing a big target, Bethell remained calm at the crease. He continued to fight even as wickets kept falling at the other end, showing maturity and determination.

His fearless approach impressed many fans and cricket experts. Bethell is known for his aggressive batting and useful left arm spin, making him a valuable option in the shortest format of the game.

All rounders who can contribute with both bat and ball are highly valued in T20 cricket. Players like Bethell add important balance to the team and provide flexibility in match situations.

With his recent performances, Bethell appears to be in strong form. This naturally raises questions about RCB’s plans for the upcoming season.

Last season, his absence from the playing XI was mainly due to team combination decisions. However, his growing reputation in international cricket may change that situation.

If RCB look for an attacking left hand batter who can also bowl, Bethell could become a strong option. His skill set makes him an attractive choice in the fast paced format.

Bethell has already shown glimpses of his ability in both IPL and international cricket. Now fans are eager to see whether RCB will give him a proper chance in IPL 2026.

If his current form continues, leaving him out of the playing XI may become increasingly difficult for the franchise.
