With IPL 2026 getting closer, Kolkata Knight Riders have a few big areas to fix before their first match. Former player Lakshmipathy Balaji and Faf du Plessis shared their views on what the team needs to get right this season.
Balaji believes the captain Ajinkya Rahane should bat in the top order. According to him, Rahane is best suited at number three, where he can control the innings and give stability.
He also suggested an aggressive top order with Finn Allen, Tim Seifert, Rahane and Cameron Green.
KKR will depend on new players this season as some of their old core is no longer there. Young players like Angkrish Raghuvanshi and big names like Cameron Green and Finn Allen will have to step up. If they perform well, the team can build strong momentum early in the tournament.
Faf du Plessis also spoke about Cameron Green, calling him an important player for KKR. But he pointed out that Green has not been in great form recently and will be under pressure because of expectations. The team will be looking at him to deliver both with bat and ball.
The biggest concern for KKR is their bowling. Du Plessis clearly said that bowling looks like a weak area, especially with injury issues in the squad. He suggested that the team may need an experienced bowler to strengthen the attack.
Spin could play a key role for KKR this season. Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine remain their biggest strengths. If both perform well and conditions support spin, KKR can gain a big advantage.
In the end, KKR’s success may depend on how quickly their new players perform and whether their bowling unit can handle pressure in crucial matches.
