Former England captain Michael Vaughan faced strong backlash on social media after proposing a Test series between India and Pakistan to be played in the United Kingdom. The suggestion quickly sparked debate, with many fans questioning its practicality and timing.
Vaughan shared the idea after Pakistan’s government cleared its team to face India in the T20 World Cup 2026. The decision removed uncertainty around the high profile group stage clash between the two arch rivals.
Reacting to the development, Vaughan said it was positive for cricket and added that India and Pakistan should also resume playing Test matches. He suggested the UK as a neutral venue for a three match Test series.
However, the comment did not sit well with many followers. Social media users trolled Vaughan, calling the proposal unrealistic due to long standing political tensions between the two countries.
India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral Test series for more than a decade. Their encounters have been limited strictly to ICC tournaments during this period.
Meanwhile, the India Pakistan clash in the T20 World Cup will go ahead as scheduled. Pakistan’s government officially withdrew its boycott threat after diplomatic discussions with friendly nations.
In its statement, the Government of Pakistan directed the national team to play the match on February 15, 2026. The much awaited fixture will be held in Colombo on the same date.
