Missing out on the Indian team isn’t new for Mohammed Shami, but it never gets easier. The experienced fast bowler, known for delivering in big tournaments, has once again been left out of the squad for the Australia tour starting October 19.
Shami Responds with Calm and Honesty
Instead of showing frustration, Shami chose composure. In a video on his YouTube channel, he spoke openly about his non-selection. The 35-year-old pacer said, “Selection is not in my hands. It’s up to the selection committee, coach, and captain. If they feel I should be there, they will select me. I am ready and practicing.”
Fitness and Form Intact
The Bengal speedster, who last played for India in the 2025 Champions Trophy, has stayed active through the IPL and domestic cricket. He dismissed fitness concerns, saying he’s been training regularly and bowling without any discomfort.
“My fitness is good. I played the Duleep Trophy, bowled 35 overs, and felt very comfortable. There is no issue with my fitness,” he said.
Competition Among Pacers at Its Peak
Shami’s form and experience are unquestionable, but India’s fast-bowling competition is tougher than ever. With several younger pacers impressing selectors, the focus appears to be on long-term planning.
Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra commented, “If his name hasn’t come now, the chances later are very low. Unless he has an incredible IPL, a return might be difficult.”
Experience Still Matters
Despite being 35, Shami continues to bring skill, control, and valuable experience. Selectors, however, often consider factors like age, workload, and future plans. With India’s rotation policy in place, the team is testing younger bowlers for long-term roles.
Waiting for the Right Opportunity
Even so, Shami’s ability to deliver breakthroughs under pressure keeps him relevant. A strong IPL 2026 or domestic season could still change selectors’ minds. His calm attitude shows maturity—no complaints, only preparation and performance.
He may not be on the Australia tour, but his determination remains strong. And if one thing defines Mohammed Shami’s career, it’s that he never stays out of the spotlight for long.
