According to Report’s, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to meet Asian Games medallists at his residence. The announcement has drawn backlash from social media users who believe the government should also be focusing on people affected by natural disasters.

One post sarcastically called the meet the most important issue in the country and questioned why Narendra Modi could make time for photographs with the gold medal winning team when entire villages had been washed away in Assam and Bihar.

The reaction reflects the frustration of social media users, who feel that celebrating a sporting achievement should not take attention away from people facing serious hardship.

The outrages is not about the players or their gold medal, but about the Prime Minister’s priorities and the response to the floods.

India won the Asian Games cricket gold on October 3 after beating Pakistan by 19 runs in the final. Abhishek Sharma scored 61 off 28 balls, while Tilak Varma remained unbeaten on 51 off 22 deliveries as India posted 211/6. Pakistan managed 192/6 despite Hasan Nawaz’s 96.

The reported meet is scheduled for October 15, a day after India’s fourth T20I against the West Indies. While the team’s achievement deserves recognition, the Social media debate shows that some people want the government’s attention on sporting celebrations to be matched by visible concern for communities affected by floods.
