RCB vs SRH: One-Man Fight Wasted in Disaster Start?

Royal Challengers Bengaluru began their IPL 2026 campaign in style with a convincing 6 wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

After winning the toss, RCB captain Rajat Patidar opted to field first a decision that worked perfectly early on.

SRH openers failed to make an impact. Abhishek Sharma continued his poor run of form, which has been a concern since the World Cup, and got out cheaply. Travis Head also couldn’t contribute much and was dismissed early.

It was Ishan Kishan who took charge of the innings with a brilliant 80 run knock, stabilizing SRH after early setbacks.

Aniket Verma provided support with a quick 43 runs, but the rest of the batting lineup couldn’t contribute much.

Despite that, SRH managed to post a competitive 201/9 in 20 overs. RCB’s bowling was led by Jacob Duffy, who delivered an impressive spell and picked up 3 crucial wickets.

The fielding effort from RCB was equally impressive. Phil Salt stood out with three stunning catches, showing a clear improvement in the team’s overall fielding performance.

Chasing 202, Phil Salt couldn’t convert his start and was dismissed for 8 runs. The momentum then shifted completely with Devdutt Padikkal, who played a blistering innings of 50 off just 21 balls, attacking every SRH bowler and putting the chase firmly under control.

At the other end, Virat Kohli anchored the innings brilliantly, rotating strike early and accelerating when needed.

Captain Rajat Patidar added quick runs with a quick 31 off 12 balls (2 fours, 3 sixes), keeping the pressure on SRH.

Even as wickets fell at intervals, Kohli ensured there were no late twists. He remained unbeaten on 69 off 38 balls (5 fours, 5 sixes), bringing up his 60th IPL half century.

Tim David chipped in with 16 off 10 balls, but it was Kohli who finished things in style with a flurry of boundaries.

RCB chased down the target in just 15.4 overs, reaching 203/4, and secured a dominant win to kick off their IPL 2026 journey.
