Poor Form, Captaincy Pressure? CSK Captain Exposed!

Ruturaj Gaikwad India A Captaincy Under Scrutiny

Ruturaj Gaikwad’s India A suffered another defeat against Australia A, losing the second unofficial ODI by 69 runs in Puducherry.

India A also lost the series 0-2 with one match remaining. Despite, the bigger question is whether Ruturaj Gaikwad should continue as captain when his own performances have not been good enough.

India A were chasing 276 but lost three wickets inside the Powerplay, leaving them struggling at 30/3.

Rajat Patidar fought back with 67 runs, but he received little support as India A were bowled out for 206. Gaikwad, meanwhile, failed to make a big contribution with the bat. The defeat has added to the questions over his place as captain.

Patidar has also given selectors a reason to consider him for a bigger role. He has been in good batting form and captained Royal Challengers Bengaluru to IPL titles in the last two seasons.

Yet, Gaikwad continues to lead India A despite his recent struggles. If the team has another captaincy option who is performing well, why not give him a chance?

This does not mean Gaikwad should be dropped from the team. He could benefit from playing without the added responsibility of captaincy and focusing entirely on his batting.

He has shown what he can do when in form, but he needs to turn that ability into consistent performances. Sometimes, removing the captaincy pressure can help a player get back to his best.

Supporting a player is one thing, but performances should matter too. How long should Gaikwad continue as captain if the results and his batting are not going his way?

India A have alternatives, and Rajat Patidar has made a case for himself. It may be time to let Gaikwad focus on his game and give someone else the responsibility of leading the side.
