India’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign had one important turning point. According to all rounder Shivam Dube, the defeat against South Africa made the team rethink and improve.
India lost their first Super Eight match to South Africa. But instead of hurting the team’s confidence, that loss helped them come back stronger in the tournament.
Speaking about the campaign, Shivam Dube said the team became much sharper after that game.
“As a team, we peaked after the loss against South Africa. Before that match we were playing well, but after that we pulled up our socks. We were a completely different team and our best performance came in the final,” Shivam Dube said.
The loss helped the players focus more on their plans. From that point onwards, India looked more disciplined and confident in every match.
By the time the final arrived, the team looked ready for the big stage and went on to win the title.
Shivam Dube also spoke about the role given to him during the tournament. He said the team management had already explained what they expected from him.
According to him, head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Suryakumar Yadav made things very clear before the tournament started.
“My role was simple. I had to keep the strike rate high while batting. If I bowled, my job was to bowl tight and control runs,” Dube explained.
He added that instead of thinking about big scores or records, he focused on doing his job in every match.
Shivam Dube said that clarity in his role gave him confidence and helped him contribute whenever the team needed him.
“My focus was simple take it match by match and help the team win the World Cup at home,” he said.
One interesting fact about Shivam Dube is his record in finals. So far, he has played six T20 finals and has won all of them.
