IPL 2026: Kohli’s Masterclass Ends KKR’s Playoff Race

Royal Challengers Bengaluru secured a six-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2026 match at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Stadium in Raipur. The victory pushed RCB to the top of the points table. The team now has 16 points.

With this result, RCB confirmed a place in the playoffs. Kolkata Knight Riders, however, have been knocked out of IPL 2026. The defeat ended their chances after a must-win situation.

Chasing 193 runs, RCB started steadily before losing Jacob Bethell early. Kartik Tyagi dismissed him for 15 runs off 12 balls in the fourth over. The early wicket did not create much pressure.

Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal then built a crucial partnership. The duo added 82 runs and stabilised the chase. Their stand shifted the momentum in RCB’s favour.

Padikkal scored 39 runs off 27 balls before Tyagi struck again. Rajat Patidar managed 11 runs off 8 balls. He once again looked uncomfortable against short-pitched deliveries.

Virat Kohli remained unbeaten and guided the chase till the end. He scored 105 runs off 60 balls with 11 fours and 3 sixes. Jitesh Sharma stayed not out on 8 runs.

This knock marked Kohli’s ninth IPL century. It is also the highest number of centuries by any player in IPL history. His innings played a key role in the comfortable win.

Earlier, Kolkata Knight Riders posted 192 for 3 after batting first. Angkrish Raghuvanshi led the innings with 71 not out off 46 balls. He hit 7 fours and 3 sixes.

Rinku Singh contributed 49 runs off 29 balls. Cameron Green added 32 runs to the total. Ajinkya Rahane scored 19, while Finn Allen made 18 runs.

For RCB, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Josh Hazlewood and Rasikh Salam took one wicket each. The bowling unit managed to control the scoring in key phases of the match.

KKR entered the game needing wins in all remaining matches. This loss ended their playoff hopes. The team could not recover from earlier setbacks in the season.

Ajinkya Rahane struggled for form with the bat. His captaincy decisions also faced criticism during the campaign. These issues affected the team’s overall performance.

Cameron Green, who was bought for a high price in the mini auction, failed to deliver consistently. His performances did not meet expectations across the season.

RCB, in contrast, appear strong at a crucial stage. The team made a change by replacing Suyash with Duffy for this match. Duffy conceded too many runs despite the team effort.

The rest of the bowling attack supported well. With Virat Kohli in excellent form, RCB are building momentum. The team now looks like a strong contender for the IPL 2026 title.
