The deadline for player retentions has been set for September 28. According to reports, Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium is among the venues being considered for the upcoming season. The BCCI is also looking at Vadodara and Varanasi for the second city.

The new stadium in Varanasi has emerged as an option if it is ready in time for the WPL, which is scheduled to be played from January 14 to February 7.

The BCCI is expected to conduct a recce before taking a final call. Domestic or practice matches could also be held at the venue to check its readiness.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru are the defending champions after beating Delhi Capitals in last season’s final.

RCB and Mumbai Indians have won the WPL twice each, while Delhi Capitals have reached all four finals without winning the title.
