GG’s Favourite Out of T20I Squad? Yash Replaces Him

Harshit Rana has been ruled out of India’s upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan and the Asian Games after suffering another injury.

Vidarbha pacer Yash Thakur has been added to India’s squads for both tournaments. The Afghanistan series begins on September 13, while the Asian Games tournament will take place later this month.

The BCCI confirmed that Harshit Rana suffered a rectus femoris strain while bowling during a simulation on September 7.

Harshit Rana had been recovering from a hamstring injury at the Centre of Excellence before suffering the fresh setback.

Yash Thakur has now received another opportunity with the Indian team. The pacer made his T20I debut against Zimbabwe in July and is set to feature in his second T20I series.

The 27 year old earned his India call up after taking 18 wickets in seven matches during last year’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

He also played two matches on India’s tour of Zimbabwe, taking four wickets while conceding runs at an economy rate of 9.37.

There is more good news for India, with Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar and Jasprit Bumrah receiving fitness clearance and being included in the updated squad.

India will also play a historic one off T20I against Japan before the Asian Games.

India’s Updated Squad: Shreyas Iyer (Captain), Abhishek Sharma, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Tilak Varma (Vice Captain), Shivam Dube, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Varun Chakaravarthy, Ravi Bishnoi, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh and Yash Thakur.

Yash Thakur will now look to make the most of his second opportunity with Team India after replacing the injured Harshit Rana.
