Dhanush’s fourth directorial venture Idli Kadai hits theatres tomorrow, carrying heavy expectations. After the mixed fate of Kuberaa—a hit in Telugu states but a disaster in Tamil Nadu—the film is seen as crucial for Dhanush, who hasn’t had a major directorial success in a decade.
Idli Kadai has been promoted extensively, with Dhanush personally touring Tamil Nadu. The film has built anticipation thanks to its strong cast, GV Prakash’s background score, and Dhanush’s return to the emotional, feel-good genre where he excelled with his debut Power Paandi. Fans hope it will erase memories of the disappointing Raayan and Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam.
Despite the buzz, advance bookings remain only average. Analysts suggest this slowdown is partly due to public focus on the Karur stampede tragedy linked to Vijay’s TVK Party rally, which has overshadowed film promotions in the state.
Even so, trade experts believe Idli Kadai has strong potential. With a five-day festive weekend and family drama appeal, the film could still build momentum if it opens to positive word of mouth. All eyes are now on whether Dhanush can finally deliver the blockbuster comeback he has been chasing.
