The Malayalam movie Identity, starring Tovino Thomas and Trisha in the lead and directed by Akhil Paul and Anas Khan, was released in theatres on January 2. However, the film has received mixed responses from audiences and critics.
According to reports, Identity has yet to gross even ₹10 crores at the box office. Due to the average reviews, audiences are showing little interest in watching the movie in theatres.
Last year, the Malayalam film industry started strong with back-to-back blockbusters in the first quarter. However, this year seems to have begun on a disappointing note for the industry.
While star actors Tovino Thomas and Trisha have been praised for their performances, viewers noted that although the first half of the film was engaging, the second half fell short, dipping in several areas.
Currently, the film has managed to recover only 70% of its budget through its theatrical run. With such underwhelming performance, Identity appears likely to end up as a flop.
The movie is set to release on OTT platforms soon. It remains to be seen if it will find success with OTT audiences or if it will face failure there as well.
