Three Horror Sequels in 2026: Kollywood’s Scariest Bet?

For the last few years, Kollywood has largely focused on action thrillers and feel-good films. Although a few horror films found success, very few filmmakers actively pursued the genre. As a result, horror slowly moved to the sidelines.

This situation is now changing with strong backing from Raghava Lawrence and Sundar C. With their support, the horror genre is making a return. Three major horror films are already lined up for release.

One of the key films is Kanchana 4, directed by Raghava Lawrence. Despite criticism for repeating the same formula, the Kanchana franchise continues to be a reliable box office brand in Kollywood.

This time, Kanchana 4 is being shaped as a Pan-Indian film. Pooja Hegde and Nora Fatehi play important roles. Around 70 percent of the shoot is complete, and the film is expected to release before the end of this year.

Another major release is Demonte Colony 3. Unlike Kanchana and Aranmanai, this franchise is known for its gripping screenplay and effective jump scares rather than comedy.

Although the first Demonte Colony did not set up a sequel, director Ajay Gnanamuthu created a strong link in Demonte Colony 2, released in 2024. The film became a major blockbuster and ended with a solid lead for Part 3.

Reports suggest that nearly half of Demonte Colony 3 has been completed. The makers also released a special New Year poster, confirming a summer release. Expectations are now very high.

The third film is Aranmanai 5. After mixed results for Parts 2 and 3, Sundar C delivered a massive hit with Part 4, which reportedly collected around 100 crores.

Following that success, Sundar C is expected to begin Aranmanai 5 after completing Mookuthi Amman 2. Given his fast working style, many trackers believe Aranmanai 5 could also release before the end of this year.

With these three films lined up, Kollywood is set for a strong dose of horror. It now remains to be seen what 2026 holds for the genre.
