Maaman, starring Soori and Aishwarya Lekshmi in the lead roles and directed by Prasanth Pandiyaraj, was released in theaters on May 16, 2025, and has received mixed responses from audiences.
Even though Maaman didn’t work well for the A-center audiences, it was a blockbuster success in B and C centers due to its nature as a rural emotional family drama.
The OTT rights and television rights for Maaman were acquired by Zee5 and Zee Tamil. Yesterday, Zee Entertainment officially announced that the OTT release and the television premiere of Maaman will happen at the same time.
Following this announcement, many trade analysts responded that this seems like a fresh strategy from Zee Entertainment. They believe that if some people haven’t subscribed to the Zee5 OTT platform, they may watch it on television, which will also boost the TRP ratings during its television premiere.
At the same time, the buzz after the television premiere may also boost watch hours on OTT, making this strategy beneficial in both ways. If this proves to be a successful strategy, many TV and OTT platforms may follow this strategy in the future.
However, the streaming date has not yet been announced, and it remains to be seen how this new strategy works during its premiere on both OTT and television.
