Karthi‘s film Vaa Vaathiyaar directed by Nalan Kumarasamy was scheduled for a theatrical release on December 12th. However, it was later postponed due to some financial issues and the makers have still not announced the new release date.
In this scenario, now there is a strong speculation that the Amazon Prime OTT platform, which has acquired the OTT rights for Vaa Vaathiyaar, is going to cancel the agreement.
This is because, according to the agreement, Vaa Vaathiyaar has to be released before the end of this month. But it seems the film’s release might take longer. Due to this situation, the Amazon Prime OTT platform may cancel its deal and Vaa Vaathiyaar’s OTT rights might be left in limbo.
At the same time, some reports suggest that the Vaa Vaathiyaar team is planning to release the film on December 24th and that the producer KE Gnanavel Raja is doing his best to ensure the film releases this month.
Following this buzz many Karthi fans are criticizing the Studio Green production house arguing that if the film had been released as planned on December 12th, there wouldn’t have been any issues with the OTT deal.
They also suggest it might have had a decent run for a long time, as there are no big releases in Kollywood for the next few weeks and the team had created a decent buzz through promotions.
But now all of that has been spoiled. If Amazon Prime cancels the OTT deal, it will be another setback for the production house and the film’s release will be held up for a long time until the OTT rights are closed. Consequently many Karthi fans are requesting the Studio Green production house to release the film on December 24th suggesting that this move would prevent problems.
However, this is just strong social media speculation and there has been no official update on this. Therefore, it remains to be seen when Vaa Vaathiyaar will release and whether it emerges as a blockbuster success upon its release.
