A worldwide opening of 100 crore is now the benchmark for pan-India stars. Prabhas has achieved this milestone several times with films like Baahubali 2, Saaho, Adipurush, Salaar, and Kalki. Shah Rukh Khan has reached it twice with Pathaan and Jawan.
Vijay has also done so with Leo and The GOAT. Yash’s KGF 2 and Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal have made their mark as well.
In Tamil cinema, only two films have crossed the 100-crore mark on their first day: Leo and The Greatest Of All Time. No other star, except ‘Thalapathy’ Vijay, has achieved this.
With Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan set for release, many hoped it would join this elite club. However, advance bookings have been underwhelming due to its genre.
Experts predict Vettaiyan will gross around 20 crore in Tamil Nadu and about $4 million overseas. This action drama is expected to reach a worldwide total of 70-75 crore on its first day.
