Why Kollywood Doesn’t Have Any 1000 Crores Movie?

Recently, Prabhas’s Kalki 2498 AD movie has collected 1000 crores worldwide, and this was officially confirmed by the production house by releasing a poster. After this news, there were lots of questions raised among the Tamil audiences about why Tamil Films doesn’t have any 1000 crore movies.

As of now, Tollywood has three 1000 crore movies, which include Bahubali 2, RRR, and Kalki 2498 AD. Bollywood also has three 1000 crore movies, which include Dangal, Pathaan, and Jawan, and Sandalwood has one 1000 crore movie, which is KGF 2. According to market viability, Kollywood is the third-largest industry in Indian cinema, but it doesn’t have even one 1,000 crore movie.

There were many reasons for this lag, which include the genre of the movie, poor promotion, and star power. Out of 7 movies, 3 such as KGF 2, Pathaan, and Jawan were action movies, and the other 3 such as Bahubali 2, RRR, and Kalki 2498 AD were fictional and historical movies. Dangal is the odd one out on this list, as it’s a sports drama. Kollywood doesn’t have any out-and-out action movies such as Pathaan or KGF, as action movies are the universal contents, which everyone loves to watch with the adrenaline rush. In the same case, there aren’t any proper historical movies in Kollywood except Ponniyin Selvan, but that too failed to pull out the grand visuals and ended up being more drama-oriented without war portions.

On the other hand, poor promotion is also one of the major reasons. Kollywood films fail to do box office wonders because of this, as other than Tamil Nadu, other state audiences don’t even know about the release of Biggies, whereas the seven thousand crore movies of Indian cinema have done excellent promotion and even conducted promotional events in various states of the country.

Some of the upcoming movies in Kollywood have the potential to do 1000 crores of business, which includes Suriya’s Kanguva, Lokesh Kangaraj, Rajinikanth’s Coolie, Lokesh Kangaraj, Kamal Haasan’s Vikram 2, Vijay’s GOAT, and his 69th movie, which is his last movie before his political entry. If these movies were promoted well and the content clicked, they all had a very good chance to collect 1000 crores. Let’s see whether these movies will achieve the 1,000 crore dream of Kollywood.
