Data Leak: India Ranked Fifth In The World

India stood at the fifth position in the highest number of breached accounts worldwide in 2023, with 5.3 million account leaks. A total of 299.8 million accounts were breached across the globe in 2023. USA topped the list, accounting for 34% of the data leaks.

Russia, France, and Spain are in the second, third, and fourth positions on the list respectively. India, which was seventh on the list in 2022, moved up to fifth place this time. However, there has been a 56% decrease in the breach rate compared to 2022.

This ranking is compiled by Surfshark using data from independent partners sourced from 29,000 publicly available databases. Data breaches pose a significant threat to internet users’ security. Typically, hackers breach data to send spam emails and potentially distribute viruses to computers.
