First Fully Indian Nuclear Plant Starts Operation

India has long aspired to achieve global power status, and certain prerequisites must be met to attain that recognition. Concerning power production, self-sufficiency is a crucial goal, and India’s recent foray into nuclear power underscores this commitment.

Gujarat’s Kakrapar has witnessed the inauguration of India’s first domestically built Nuclear Power Plant, which has now commenced full-scale operations.

Although the plant initiated its journey on June 30th, it initially operated at 90% capacity. As of yesterday, the plant has reached its maximum potential.

PM Modi announced a significant milestone as India successfully operated the largest indigenous 700 MWe Kakrapar Nuclear Power Plant Unit-3 in Gujarat at full capacity. He extended his congratulations to the scientists and engineers who played a pivotal role.

This achievement will be followed by further endeavors, as NPCIL is presently constructing two more power plants in Rawatbhata, Rajasthan, and Gorakhpur, Haryana. Their ambitious goal includes establishing 16 additional 700MW power plants across the nation.

The government has granted approval for the construction of ten indigenously developed Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs) in a coordinated effort across four distinct locations: Gorakhpur in Haryana, Chutka in Madhya Pradesh, Mahi Banswara in Rajasthan, and Kaiga in Karnataka.
