Huge! AMD To Invest Heavily In India

In a significant move that strengthens India’s position in the global semiconductor landscape, American multinational semiconductor Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has announced plans to invest approximately USD 400 million in the country over the next five years.

The announcement was made at the prestigious ‘Semicon India Conference 2023’ in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The planned investment includes the establishment of a new AMD campus in Bengaluru, set to become the company’s largest design and R&D center. This expansion aims to create around 3,000 new engineering roles in India by 2028.

The state-of-the-art Bengaluru campus will feature extensive lab space and collaboration tools designed to foster innovation and teamwork. With this development, AMD will increase its office footprint to a total of 10 locations across key Indian cities like Bengaluru, Delhi, Gurugram, Hyderabad, and Mumbai.

Prime Minister Modi, addressing the conference, invited global semiconductor leaders to invest in India and seize the “first mover’s advantage.” He emphasized India’s emergence as a trusted partner in the global chip supply chain, owing to a stable, reform-oriented government and the nation’s fast adoption of technology.

The ‘Semicon India Conference 2023’ aims to catalyze India’s semiconductor ecosystem, positioning the country as a global hub for semiconductor design, manufacturing, and technology development. With India’s aspirations driving its growth and the continued trust of the world, the future looks promising for the nation’s semiconductor industry.
