AP: Microsoft To Invest in Largest Quantum Computer

Tech giant Microsoft is set to invest ₹1772.08 crore in Andhra Pradesh, marking one of its biggest technology ventures in India. As part of this initiative, Microsoft will establish a large-scale quantum computer with a capacity of 1200 qubits (50 logical qubits) at Quantum Valley, Amaravati.

Talks between Microsoft and Andhra Pradesh officials have concluded successfully. The government has begun preparing around 4000 sq ft of space for Microsoft to begin operations in Quantum Valley.

This follows the state’s recent agreement with IBM, which is already setting up a 133-qubit quantum computer in the same hub.

The list of global tech participants continues to grow. Japanese technology firm Fujitsu has also expressed interest in establishing a 64-qubit quantum computer in the Valley. Fujitsu plans to invest 50% of the funds required for a fabrication facility, with support from the Central Government’s R&D initiative.

In preparation for these large-scale investments, the Andhra Pradesh government has earmarked 90 lakh sq ft of space for research-focused companies and startups. The upcoming Iconic Tower, designed by L&T, will contribute an additional 40,000 sq ft of advanced infrastructure to support the project.

These developments are part of the state’s ambitious plan to transform Amaravati into a global hub for quantum research and innovation. With growing interest from major technology companies, Quantum Valley is poised to become India’s next major scientific and industrial centre.
