Many tech companies have been laying off thousands of employees since last year as a part of their restructuring plans. Even Google fired many of its employees some time ago.
Now, in the second round of layoffs, the company is getting ready to sack many more employees from its offices across the world.
As per reports, Ruth Porat, the Chief Financial Officer of Google, sent a memo to the employees informing them about the company’s layoff plans.
The memo stated that Google decided to lay off employees due to the advent of AI. It was said that the tech sector is in the middle of a huge platform shift with AI. Thus, the company is planning to restructure its ecosystem to adapt to the changes happening in the tech world.
Earlier this year, Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai also warned about layoffs in the company in 2024. Meanwhile, Google didn’t confirm the exact number of employees who will be sacked. But most of the layoffs would happen in Asia-Pacific, Europe and Middle-East regions.
Not only Google but many other tech giants like Apple, Tesla and Amazon have also laid off many of their employees. Reportedly, around 58000 techies were sacked so far in 2024. These layoffs in major companies are now worrying the tech world.
Japanese tech giant Toshiba is also getting ready to fire 5000 of its employees, equal to 10% of its entire staff strength. It was stated that Toshiba took this call as a part of its restructuring process, concentrating on infra and digital tech.
