‘Gandavedh’, an Internet of Things-based hygiene monitoring system that can identify foul odours in trains under its control, will be launched by Eastern Railway soon.
Three trains from the Howrah division, three from the Sealdah division, two from the Asansol division, and two from the Malda division will test the system. When a strong odour is detected on a train lavatory, the device will alert the designated individual via SMS and web-based signals.
After that, the onboard cleaning crew will take care of the lavatory and clean it right away. Temperature, humidity, TVOC, and malodor are all monitored and detectable by the Internet of Things (IoT) gadget, which will send out notifications when any of these factors exceed threshold values.
The Railways Board is thinking about testing IoT-based technologies to use detectors to find unwanted odours. Viliso Technologies, a startup located in Mumbai, has been selected for the project, which would be implemented in particular coaches initially.
The information is transmitted to a mobile application and website that are utilised by the person in charge of sanitation or the oversight body. Bad odours in restrooms are detected by smart systems using sensors, which send the detected scents to a central centre for analysis and automated reactions.
Better smell management and faster response are made possible by this real-time monitoring. It’s unclear, though, which product Railways intends to utilise.
