Air India has signed a new codeshare agreement with Air Astana, the national airline of Kazakhstan. The move strengthens connectivity between India and Central Asia, with Air India placing its AI code on Air Astana flights between Almaty, Delhi, and Mumbai.

The agreement builds on an earlier interline partnership and makes travel simpler. Passengers can now book single tickets and enjoy through-checked baggage. This ensures easier access to Almaty and smoother onward connections via Delhi and Mumbai.

Air India CEO Campbell Wilson called the deal a strategic step in growing the airline’s global network. He said Kazakhstan’s rising importance in trade, tourism, and cultural exchange makes it a valuable market. The partnership also supports leisure travel, business, and student mobility.

Air Astana CEO Peter Foster praised Air India’s progress and said the deal will help increase passenger flows. With Air Astana expanding services to India, including routes to Delhi, Mumbai, and Goa, both airlines will gain from wider seat sales and stronger connectivity.

The agreement allows access to over 18 domestic and 9 international destinations in India through Air India’s network. For Indian passengers, it simplifies entry to Central Asia. Industry experts see this as a win for travellers, making Kazakhstan a more accessible regional hub.
