Air India Group has announced its launch plans from Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), set to begin commercial flights in late October or early November 2025. Operated by Adani Airport Holdings, NMIA will ease congestion at Mumbai’s existing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.
Air India Express to Lead Initial Flights
The first phase will be led by Air India Express. It will operate 20 daily departures across 15 domestic cities, adding up to 40 flight movements each day. This network will boost regional connectivity and improve travel options across western India.
Expansion Planned for 2026
By mid-2026, Air India Group aims to scale up to 55 daily departures, including up to five international routes. By the winter season of 2026, daily flights are projected to reach 60, turning NMIA into a growing transit hub.
Airport Capacity and Growth
NMIA is being developed in five phases. The first stage will handle 20 million passengers annually and half a million metric tons of cargo. Once fully built, it will manage 90 million passengers and 3.2 million metric tons of cargo each year.
Dual-Airport System for Mumbai
IndiGo and Akasa Air have also confirmed launches from NMIA. With Air India Group’s phased rollout, Mumbai is set to function as a true dual-airport system, strengthening its connectivity and role as a global aviation hub.
