A passenger of American Airlines recently shared a frustrating experience involving what they described as dynamic pricing while trying to change a flight. The incident has raised questions about fare consistency during customer support interactions.
Initially, the traveller noticed that switching from an evening flight to an early afternoon departure the next day would cost only $50. This price was displayed directly in the airline’s mobile application.
However, the situation changed quickly when the passenger attempted to complete the modification through customer support. The quoted fare difference reportedly began increasing within minutes during the same conversation.
According to the traveller, the price jumped from $140 to $180 and then to $210. All these changes happened while the person was still chatting with an airline representative about the modification.
Later, the passenger ended the chat and contacted two more representatives to confirm the pricing. Each agent rechecked the fare separately, which led the traveller to describe the situation as dynamic pricing.
One representative offered the change for $140, while another later quoted $125. The traveller expressed disbelief at how drastically the fare fluctuated within such a short time.
This was significantly different from the original $50 shown in the airline’s app. Experiences like this raise concerns about pricing transparency and consistency in airline ticket modifications.
