AA Flight Horror: Seat Change Sparks Panic Attack

A passenger flying from Newark to South Bend recently shared a distressing experience with American Airlines. What began as a routine journey turned into a nightmare marked by confusion, anxiety, and poor handling by the airline.

Boarding Pass Error Causes Delay

The passenger had a layover in Charlotte and booked exit row seats due to severe claustrophobia. However, at security, officials flagged an error in their boarding pass, claiming the name didn’t match the passport. Although the name was correct, it took over 30 minutes and several managers to fix the issue.

Seats Reassigned Without Notice

After the delay, the passenger was among the last to board. To their shock, their exit row seat had been reassigned. Placed in a standard row, they suffered a panic attack mid-flight. Flight attendants provided oxygen, while a doctor on board monitored their rising blood pressure.

Second Flight, Same Problem

Once cleared by EMS in Charlotte, the passenger boarded their connecting flight only to discover the same seat reassignment had happened again. The second incident triggered another panic episode, leaving them with chest pain and palpitations for days afterward.

Lack of Accountability

The experience exposed a lack of empathy and accountability from American Airlines. Despite the passenger’s medical distress and repeated issues, the airline reportedly offered no compensation or apology for the ordeal.
