AA Blunder Leaves Flyer Stuck With Half a Seat?

A passenger flying with American Airlines recently reported extreme discomfort while travelling from Phoenix to Cancun.

Issue with seating arrangement

The passenger said they were asked to sit beside an obese traveller whose body extended into their paid seat space. The neighbouring passenger had pre-boarded under the special assistance category, making them believe the crew was aware of the issue.

Seat encroachment concerns

Once seated, the traveller found the armrest could not be lowered, and part of their seat was taken up. This left them feeling they did not receive the full seat they had purchased.

Who should raise the issue?

The passenger questioned whether it was their duty to call a flight attendant, fearing it might embarrass the other traveller. They felt such situations should be addressed by airline staff instead.

Airline policy confusion
